The village is renowned for its many churches, mostly Byzantine, located both within the village and in the surrounding area, making it worth taking a stroll to discover them.

Geraki Castle

The imposing Castle of Geraki dominates the village, built on a strategic hill overlooking the Laconian plain and Mount Parnon. Constructed in the 13th century by the Franks, it is an outstanding example of medieval fortification, bearing strong marks of Venetian and Byzantine presence in the area. Within its walls, ruins of old churches, residences, and public buildings can still be seen, with the most impressive being the frescoes in the churches, which remain vibrant despite the passage of centuries. The castle offers a unique panoramic view and a journey back in time through the alleys and remnants of a glorious past. Today, it stands as one of the most important archaeological sites in Laconia and a favorite destination for visitors seeking history, culture, and natural beauty all in one place.

Geusithea restaraunt

Another feature that makes Geraki stand out is its weaving tradition. In the 19th century, its kilims were famous both in Greece and abroad, winning awards at exhibitions in Vienna in 1873 and at the Zappeion in 1890. The weaving is mainly done on vertical looms, though horizontal looms are also used. Today, the tradition continues through the activities of the Weaving Center, which this year, from the end of December, is launching a two-year Weaving School under the auspices of the University of West Attica. At the Center, both old and new kilims are displayed, some over 100 years old.
